The Alliant Couple and Family Clinic provides couple counseling using Emotionally Focused Therapy.
What’s Emotionally Focused Therapy?
Emotionally Focused Therapy focuses on the emotional bond between the two of you, because there’s lots of research that says that if partners know how to reach for each other and pull each other close and hold each other their relationship will be secure, satisfying and long lasting. That’s what good couples therapy is all about.
EFT is based on the assumption that If you love each other that you can also really impact and upset each other. EFT is designed with couple therapy that will help you have the positive impact you want to have, and to get the responsiveness you crave from your partner.
EFT is couple therapy designed to help you create emotional safety between you. This safety increases trust and openness with each other. EFT also is designed to help you know how to reach for each other when you need each other. That’s the focus.
Other approaches might focus more on teaching you good communication skills or how to negotiate. We don’t do that. Because our experience in couple therapy with couples is, and research proves, that if you can help each other when you get upset, scared or anxious, or when somebody has hurt feelings, if you can create safety and connection between the two of you, you will be able to communicate clearly and problem solve together.
EFT focuses on the emotional message you send each other, on how you deal with your emotions and the music behind the dance you do together. EFT marriage therapy or couple therapy uses a proven map to help you learn to dance together and help each other be happy.
In EFT we have a very special focus. Through this focus our couple therapy helps partners reconnect, feel close and comfortable with each other, and reignite their passion.
